217 paintings, 178 sculptures, 9 textiles, 4 ceramics, some 8,000 drawings and almost all his prints

The Fundació Joan Miró’s collection comprises over 14,000 works. Most of these pieces were donated by the artist himself, but others came from collections owned by his wife, Pilar Juncosa, and Joan Prats, his close friend and the driving force behind the idea of setting up the Fundació Joan Miró. The collection grew with subsequent donations by Marguerite and Aimé Maeght, Pierre Matisse, Manuel de Muga, Josep Lluís Sert, Francesc Farreras, Josep Royo, Gérald Cramer and David Fernández Miró, among others. It also includes works on loan from collections owned by Emili Fernández Miró, Joan Punyet Miró and Lola Fernández Jiménez and from the Kazumasa Katsuta Collection.

Tribute to Miró

A contemporary art collection put together as a tribute to Miró in the year after his death. It consists of donations and long-term loans of pieces by Pierre Alechinsky, Balthus, Anthony Caro, Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, Julio González, Wifredo Lam, Fernand Léger, André Masson, Robert Motherwell, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Rauschenberg, Antonio Saura, Yves Tanguy and Antoni Tàpies, among others. It also includes gifts by Valerio Adami, Andreu Alfaro, Eduardo Chillida and Moisès Villèlia; a collection of prints by contemporary artists donated by Aimé Maeght; and three pieces by Alexander Calder: Hunchback, donated by Josep Lluís Sert, and Mercury Fountain and 4 Wings, which Calder donated to the Fundació Joan Miró as a mark of his friendship with the artist.
