Miró Chair

The Miró Chair is a joint initiative between the Fundació Joan Miró and the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, whose aim is to promote and disseminate new perspectives on the artist’s work. It comprises two main activities: the Joan Miró International Research Group and the postgraduate course Joan Miró and 20th Century Art.

Robert Lubar, Professor of the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, is director of the Chair. Lubar, a specialist in the French and Spanish avant-garde, completed his doctoral thesis on Joan Miró and has devoted most of his research to the artist’s work.

The Joan Miró International Research Group has been established to extend academic learning about the artist. It is formed by internationally recognised experts on Joan Miró, with the support of New York University (NYU).

Joan Miró and 20th Century Art is an online postgraduate course specialising in Joan Miró. It is taught by an academic team who are Joan Miró scholars and, at the same time, members of the Research Group. The course is divided into six top-level subjects specially created for these studies.
