The Fundació Joan Miró Archive

The Fundació Archive contains a large collection of works on paper and documents related to Joan Miró. This legacy makes it possible to study various aspects of Joan Miró’s work, thereby making the Fundació a reference point for studying the artist.

These holdings consist of almost 10,000 items, including preparatory drawings, sketches, models, notes and correspondence from the artist’s entire life that he personally archived. The archive also houses an almost complete collection of lithographs, engravings and bibliophile books by Joan Miró. The correspondence that the artist received, especially regarding some of his book projects, is also included.

This set of documents was donated for the first time in June 1975 and April 1976, coinciding with the opening and inauguration of the Fundació respectively. The second donation was made in November 1987, after the artist’s death. The archive also preserves lithographs and engravings by other artists from the Galerie Maeght in Paris, including Antoni Tàpies, Eduardo Chillida, Alberto Giacometti, Alexander Calder and Georges Braque. These items were donated in 1977.
