Joaquim Gomis Archive

Joaquim Gomis i Serdañons (Barcelona, 1902-1991) was a Catalan photographer considered one of the most important of the 20th century and one of the pioneers of a new photographic language: narrative. He was also a businessman, art patron, collector and the first president of the Fundació Joan Miró (1972-1975).

As a photographer, he developed an extensive and rigorous set of works, linked to the most advanced artistic positions of the time. He was a founding member of Amics de l’Art Nou and Club 49, two of the most active groups in the dissemination of avant-garde art in Catalonia between 1930 and 1970.

His photographic and documentary holdings are on loan to the National Archive of Catalonia, where they can be consulted in person by appointment or through the centre’s online archives.
