La Mercè 2021. Open Day

How Does the Museum Move Me?

To celebrate the 2021 La Mercè holiday, nine dancers will engage in a dialogue with the spaces and the works in the Joan Miró Collection rooms throughout the day.

A few months ago, in collaboration with the Mercat de les Flors and the Fundació Joan Miró, the artist and choreographer Quim Bigas invited several dancers to interact individually with Miró's pieces, in response to the question How Does the Museum Move Me?. Their performances were recorded on video and are now on permanent display next to the works. Initially, they danced in the museum when it was empty; for La Mercè, the same dancers will return to the Fundació to engage with the space and do so in the presence and under the gaze of an audience.

This action is part of Dancing Museums: The Democracy of Beings, a European project that fosters and sustains collaborations between dance organisations, museums, universities and local communities.

On the day of La Mercè, admission will be free, including access to the Joan Miró Collection and to Views, an exhibition of photographs by Juande Jarillo held in the foyer. The café, gift shop and bookstore will be open.
