Meanders of Agelenas Become Safe Ladders
Partnered with poetry, the artist Maria Freire Montané offers us a re-reading of the Miró and the United States exhibition based on the observations of minimal gestures and the experience of collective, mystical and ancestral attention. In her own words:
'It is about finding the right holes.
Standing before the horizon,
which belongs to us,
ten finger marks and another of attention
we propose to enter together:
and
to stop climbing alone,
and if the moss is wet
it won't throw the whole pot down.
Am I clear?
We slip,
but we are not blind.
And that rises above the threshold,
beyond its deception.'
Maria Freire Montané trained in the Montseny valley and graduated in Art and Design from the Escola Massana, a refuge and starting point for her explorations.
In her practice, she explores the concept of liminal space, the boundaries between the tangible and the invisible, and reflects on the processes that connect us with our inner strength through listening and in a close relationship with nature. Her work is structured by means of an interdisciplinary methodology that encompasses performance, painting and sculpture. She began her career thanks to a Xavier Nogués Grant for the graphic arts, which encouraged her to develop as a pictorial artist.
She has shown her work in spaces such as the Fundació Brossa, La Cera 13, Espai 88, Cromo and the Centre Cultural del Carme. Her works have also featured in educational projects organised by Barcelona Provincial Council and Betevé. In addition, she has participated in conversations and performances, among them Valeri Xerra, at La Virreina Centre de la Imatge, and at the àngels barcelona gallery at the invitation of the Grup d'Estudi. She has acted in Cabaret Internet, at El Pumarejo and with the Malnascuts El Prat group (Teatre L'Artesà and La Capsa), as well as in Castells, a short film directed by Blanca Camell. In Lleida in 2023, she was awarded the Viladrich Prize for Painting.
