In Favour of the Tangible: An Affective Ar(t)chaeology of Gesture and Matter That Does Not Forget
Led by the researcher Júlia Lull Sanz, this itinerary will explore some of the visual gestures and movements that, under careful observation, become symptomatic: expressing the concerns and directions that contemporary art of today will take, as well as marking the ailments and desires that we drag around with us.
The proposal seeks to foster a space for observation and exchange, as well as a philosophical and aesthetic approach to the works, paying attention to what they communicate through their materiality. In a century marked by wars, exiles and dictatorships, the assembled works speak to us through matter as a place of persistence: clay, fabric, wood, iron, pigment or paper become archives of gestures, embodied memory. Affections, friendships and collaborations are also intertwined within matter, reminding us that all creation is relational: we always make with others; we make with the world; we make with what has preceded us.
Furthermore, this approach is informed by a feminist perspective that places value on the relationships, exchanges and echoes contained in the works beyond that of the intentions of their creators or prevailing discourse. We will therefore highlight works produced by women artists, as well as those that explore less common languages and materials often considered marginal. Our aim is to address their memory and, together with all the participants, develop an ar(t)chaeology that is attentive to matter and its sensibility.
The journey therefore invites us to think about creation as an act of resistance and connection, to think and look together to actively participate in this intersection of materials, gestures and times.
