Dismantlings

In 1978, Joseph Losey filmed Roads to the South in Barcelona, considered a 'spiritual sequel' to Alain Resnais' The War Is Over. The film's script, written by Jorge Semprún, was inspired by his own story: that of a writer and former communist militant (Yves Montand) who experienced disenchantment and uncertainty during the final days of the Franco regime. One of the most iconic scenes in the film was shot at the recently opened Fundació Miró.

Based on this scene, the researcher Ramon Balcells and the artist Dani Montlleó will present a short live audiovisual essay, editing and commenting on scenes from this and other films. Combining images by Resnais, Jean-Pierre Melville, Jacques Tati and Carlos Saura, the piece will lead to a new montage in which the Fundació Miró becomes a film set, an experimental laboratory and a stage where anything can happen.

This session is an activation of Muntatges (Montages), the audiovisual piece screened in the exhibition Poetry Has Just Begun: 50 Years of Miró, and forms part of a doctoral project by the CINEMA (Collective for Aesthetic Research in Audiovisual Media) group at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
