Presentation of the book Otra historia de la música
Presentation of the book Otra historia de la música (Another History of Music), Penguin Random House, 2025, by its author, Miguel Ángel Cajigal, accompanied by the novelist, journalist and university professor Miqui Otero. The presentation will cover some of the book's main ideas as well as share anecdotes and excerpts. The author will sign copies for those attending at the end of the presentation.
From the songs of African slaves to the K-pop revolution and from Rosalía's transgression to Bach's mathematical purity, music has been the driving force of stories, celebrations and tragedies.
As in his previous works, Miguel Ángel Cajigal (El Barroquista) shatters established preconceptions in this book to reveal the important social and cultural roles that music has played throughout the centuries, demonstrating its ability to transcend borders and transform the way in which we experience the world.
The third volume of this Otra historia cultural trilogy invites us to reflect on music as a universal language that connects what is human in the broadest sense of the term: emotions, identity and culture. Employing a freshly accessible narrative, Cajigal provides a new perspective on how music has been more than a mere companion to become an essential protagonist in recounting our history.
An art historian, professor and cultural communicator, Miguel Ángel Cajigal Vera is a member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS). In 2022, he received the EDE Award for Best Digital Educator in the History category in Spain, and in 2025, he received the Zapping Award for Best Online Communicator. He is a regular guest on the Onda Cero radio programme Julia en la onda and on the Radio Galega programme Galicia por diante.
