From the vegetable garden to art
Before beginning to paint his landscapes, Joan Miró used to take a walk through the vegetable gardens of Mont-roig del Camp, observing the fruits and vegetables farmers grew there. The Escola Poble-sec early childhood education community, together with the Centre Cívic El Sortidor and the Fundació Joan Miró, have gone from the vegetable garden to art, following in Joan Miró’s artistic footsteps.
A collection of seeds from the fruits and vegetables students consume at school and at home is the starting point to study the processes of crop growth. We visited the Fundació and the vegetable gardens of Font Trobada along with the school children’s families, and created an imaginary vegetable garden by planting coloured patches and stamping with natural elements. We also talked about healthy food and cooked some vegetable quiches together with the Menja’t Montjuïc collective in the kitchen of the Centre Cívic El Sortidor.
This project will be displayed in an exhibition at the Centre Cívic El Sortidor from 16 May to 10 June 2022.

Part of Gresol Cultural
Gresol Cultural is a social, educational and cultural project for the purpose of fostering cooperation between major cultural facilities and schools in the Poble-sec neighbourhood in long-term projects that fit into the academic curriculum. It also aims to encourage the area’s cultural potential through the different forms of expression these facilities offer (music, art, visual arts, heritage and so on) to create educational options in line with pupils’ real needs and circumstances.
