The Miró restores the historic Cypress Garden

The Fundació Joan Miró has reopened the Cypress Garden to the public, a historic space on Montjuïc that was previously only accessible on a limited basis and is now fully integrated into the museum’s visitor route. This restoration forms part of the Foundation’s 50th anniversary and the renewed presentation of the Miró Collection.

Originally designed by landscape architect Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier and part of the historic Laribal Gardens, the site has been carefully restored, preserving elements such as the fountain and period furnishings. Its reopening transforms it into a new open-air exhibition space, strengthening the relationship between art, architecture and landscape. 

The garden now features Joan Miró’s sculpture Woman (1970), placed in dialogue with the surrounding vegetation. This installation reflects the artist’s vision of sculpture in direct connection with nature, extending the visitor experience beyond the museum galleries.
