Festivals in Occitania by Charles Camberoque
Last Thursday 13 June, Charles Camberoque’s photography exhibition opened at the Fundació Joan Miró. A contributor to numerous magazines, he currently focuses on ethnophotographic research in Languedoc and Catalonia. Festivals are one of his favourite subjects, as are handicraft techniques, the traditional activities of farmers and fishermen, the current transformation of landscapes and the dramatic expression of each region.
The photographic exhibition at the Fundació Joan Miró aims to depict situations and, above all, atmospheres, psychological moments in which people in costume become actors in their own liberating fantasies. We find men in extreme situations, between their everyday persona and the one they perform for a few hours during the festival, in which even seemingly passive spectators participate.
The exhibition can be visited at the Fundació Joan Miró until 15 July.
