Reflections on Building Our House by Rufino Mesa

Building a house, as Rufino Mesa claims, requires some basic knowledge – how and for whom it is built – a theory that many architects advocate in order to avoid producing containers instead of houses.

The current situation demands a complete rethink: in order to avoid falling into the barbarism of irrational technology, it is essential to reintroduce new values into the world of facts, although not only intellectually but also sensually. This is one of the proposals that Rufino Mesa puts forward.

The works presented are only a few of the objects resulting from the experiences, sensations, discoveries and speculations of the person who has carried them out, but what is really important is the assertion that has been made of the use of the senses and the capacity for discovery and experimentation.

Reflections on Building Our House, which began with a concept as simple as that of building a home, has therefore resulted in a visual work full of unexpected solutions that are entirely useful to those who put them into practice, whatever their initial motivation.

The exhibition will run until 18 May at Espai 10 and on the rooftop spaces of the Fundació Joan Miró.
