Paper Cut-outs to Reconstruct the Landscape of Ibiza by Nèstor Pellicer

Nèstor Pellicer is presenting his paper cut-outs of architectural subjects at the Fundació Joan Miró’s Espai 10.

Running until the end of November, the exhibition consists of a collection of ten cut-outs in which the artist reproduces a similar number of characteristic elements of the rural and urban architecture of Ibiza, his home island. The artist views these cut-outs, which are not intended to be a representative sample of Ibizan functional architecture, as ‘a pleasant testimony and reminder of the Ibizan landscape, or a book of prints to be unearthed when many of these buildings can only be recovered in the form of paper cut-outs...’

Before dedicating himself to paper cutting, a popular graphic art with a long tradition in Catalonia, Nèstor Pellicer had combined his work as a professional town planner with forays into the world of engraving and printing. Both experiences – town planning and graphics – have now merged together in these paper cuttings: the former providing the subject matter and purpose, and the latter a perfectly finished end product with huge recreational and educational potential.
