The Collage Principle
An extensive documentation section with more than 52 original works will be included in the exhibition The Collage Principle, which will be on show at the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona from 28 January 1982. Organised in collaboration with the German Institute in Barcelona, the exhibition will run until 7 May.
Its aim is to present an overview of the collage technique by using contemporary examples based on writing collages, material paintings, assemblages, photomontages, surrealist collages, décollages, frame texts and other variations.
The selection of works was made by taking into account differences in technique, materials and age of the artists. The oldest artist, Werner Kreuzhage, belongs to the contemporary generation of Schwitters’ collages of the 1920s. Later generations are represented by Joseph Beuys, Karl F. Borneff, Jürgen Brodwolf, Wolfgang Ehehalt, Jochen Gerz, Matthias Gessinger, Heinz E. Hirscher, Gerhard Hoehme, Alfonso Hüppi, Angelika Janz, Herbert Kaufmann, Fritz Köthe, Jiří Kolář, Franz Mon, Maina-Miriam Munsky, Ulf Rungenhagen, Michael Schenk, Johannes Schreiter, Bernard Schultze, Max Söllner, Peter Sorge and Wolf Vostell.
