Stelae installation by Noëlle Tissier

Fundació Joan Miró’s Espai 10, Taste and Differences season

Dates: 7 November to 1 December

Opening: Thursday 7 November at 7.30 pm

An exhibition by the artist Noëlle Tissier will open at the Fundació Joan Miró’s Espai 10 on 7 November as part of its Taste and Differences season, organised in collaboration with the art critic Glòria Picazo and the writer Vicenç Altaió.

Noëlle Tissier (Montpellier, 1949) is already known in Barcelona for her participation in the Casino exhibition, which could be seen at the Fundació Joan Miró in 1982. On this occasion, she is presenting the installation Stelae, in which she combines the memory of architecture and painting with the presence of death through funerary monuments: stelae, sarcophagi and columns.

The different materials she uses for each piece – essentially columns – are drawn from two versions, the authentic and the false: on the one hand, marble, metal, wood, mirror and brick, and on the other hand, their industrialised replicas.

Between these columns, there is also a reflection on memory through painting and on the process of shaping Stelae, according to which a column is based on the accumulation of sketches prior to its installation, with the result that only a single painting ends up as a visible trace. This reflection on painting also corresponds to a reflection on music, based on a column constructed from records from which a musical fragment emerges.

The space in this installation is disturbed by an implosion towards the central space as well as an expansive action of the pieces positioned around it.

NOTE: The artist will be present at the Fundació Joan Miró on 5, 6 and 7 November to facilitate any contact with the press.
