Leandre Cristòfol. Obres: 1933-1980 (Leandre Cristòfol. Works: 1933-1980)
Fundació Joan Miró
26 September–19 November
On Tuesday, 26 September at 12 p.m., the Fundació Joan Miró will present to the media an exhibition dedicated to the artist Leandre Cristòfol from Lleida. The exhibition will remain open to the public until 19 November.
Organised by Barcelona City Council in collaboration with the Fundació Joan Miró, the exhibition brings together 66 works, including drawings and sculptures, spanning from 1933 – when Cristòfol created his first non-figurative works – through to 1980.
Cristòfol’s artistic practice is closely linked to Surrealism, particularly from the 1930s onwards. During this period, he worked extensively in drawing, which he called “morphologies”, as well as sculpture.
His engagement with Surrealist methods and ideas was shaped by the critics Josep Viola and M. A. Cassanyes. Both his sculptures and drawings reflect the Surrealist approach to the object.
Most of the works on display belong to Barcelona City Council, following agreements made between the artist and the institution.
This exhibition is the most comprehensive presentation of Cristòfol’s work to date. Until now, his work has mainly been shown in group exhibitions or smaller displays organised by private galleries.
The exhibition was curated by Francesc Miralles.
A catalogue will be published to accompany the exhibition, featuring texts by J. M. García, Emmanuel Guigon, Francesc Miralles and Margit Rowell. |
