Espai 13. Bloc de fragments (Notebook of Fragments) series
Installation Passos (Steps), by Montserrat Soto

On Thursday 22 October at 12.30 p.m., coinciding with the press conference announcing the 1992–93 programme, Espai 13 will present Passos, an installation by Montserrat Soto, the first artist featured in the Bloc de fragments series.
Passos consists of two large-format photographs mounted on illuminated lightboxes placed on opposite sides of Espai 13, connected by a strip of red neon lights.
Visitors, drawn into the space by the surrounding red glow, can engage with the installation in different ways – either passively, by contemplating the neon reflections on the dark background of the photographs, or actively, through alternative interpretations subtly suggested by the artist.
The origin of the neon lights, the path they trace and their ‘destination’, the irregular ‘steps’ between different points and the interplay between reality and its representation – these are some of the themes Montserrat Soto explores in this installation. |
