Miró on Stage

The curtain rises.

It has always pained me that Joan Miró worked so little for the Theatre and not at all for the cinema. But that’s the way it is. I find the idea of exhibiting Miró’s works and sketches for the Theatre at the Fundació very interesting, along with their corresponding information. This aspect of the artist is quite unknown and, according to the documents we have available, it is highly interesting additional work. There is evidence that he never stopped thinking about the Theatre throughout his life. The History of the Theatre (in capital letters) has missed a major opportunity. Miró’s art, so close to choreography, had a thousand and one possibilities to be effectively elaborated in this field. His proven luminous instinct placed him in an unbeatable position. Miró, so precise and limitless! Effusive and on the verge of wonder. But his exemplary footsteps have barely trod upon these places, when so many strange people have walked and passed through them…
