Espai 13 1999–2000 series, Un oasi en el desert blau (An Oasis in the Blue Desert) The Fundació Joan Miró, as part of the Un oasi en el desert blau (An Oasis in the Blue Desert) series developed by Espai 13 during the 1999-2000 season, invites all artists to take part in the open call for entries running from 15 June to 9 July 2000. This initiative is aimed at all visual artists, inviting them to submit a project for an exhibition, installation, action, video creation, etc., related to the theme of the series, which could serve as an intervention or response. The Un oasi en el desert blau series introduces a new approach that looks to other cultural and geographical locations for experimentation and creative research, beyond the immediate environment. Specifically, it seeks to highlight the work of young artists from the Central American region, particularly the Caribbean. Throughout the series, the diverse artistic proposals reflect on the particularities and cultural identity issues of Puerto Rico, a region constantly traversed and experienced as a space for exchange and reciprocal influences, feeling both central and peripheral at the same time. The reflection on collective identity centres on complex concepts such as movement and mobility, new communication formats, originality and diversity and reflection on reality beyond local borders. The Fundació Joan Miró encourages all potential participants to visit the exhibitions and engage with the dynamic atmosphere of Espai 13. Espai Obert Call for Entries Guidelines: The jury will assess submissions based on the following criteria: - Relevance of the theme to the series. - Use of experimental language. - The project must be specifically conceived for Espai 13, and not previously realised. - Small-scale dimensions, including models, drawings, photographs, sketches, etc., as well as the running time of video or audio documentation, in order to accommodate the inclusion of as many works as possible. Interested parties must submit their documentation on weekdays between 25 April and 5 May 2000, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Fundació Joan Miró offices. The submission must include a project description (maximum one page), graphic documentation, a brief curriculum vitae, biography and information on previous works. Video documentation should be submitted in VHS format. Once the selection process is complete, applicants will be notified of the jury’s decision by post. All costs related to the participation in the call are to be borne by the participating artists, including transport and installation of the projects. The Fundació Joan Miró will take the utmost care in handling the submitted materials but cannot accept responsibility for any accidental damage. Barcelona, March 2000
