Miró-Dupin: Art and Poetry

Joan Miró and Jacques Dupin first met in Barcelona in 1954, and they began a long friendship two years later, coinciding with the monograph that the poet was preparing on Joan Miró. The work appeared in 1961, and it became the most important publication on the artist. The poetic power of Jacques Dupin’s discussion of Joan Miró’s plastic art seduced the painter, who for years directed his artistic research towards the fusion of painting and poetry.

In keeping with the idea that the purpose of art or poetry should not be representation, Miró and Dupin carried out many joint projects during the almost three decades that they shared as friends.

Miró-Dupin: Art and Poetry reveals the poetic journey of the painter and the poet, while at the same time aiming to be an exhibition in recognition of Jacques Dupin’s contribution to the knowledge of Miró’s work.

Joan Miró’s interest in literature is reflected in the books from his personal library, which will be displayed alongside a selection of paintings, sculptures, drawings and graphic works from the Fundació Joan Miró’s collection. At the same time, a selection of books and poems by Jacques Dupin, illustrated by various contemporary artists, will lead us into his poetic world.
