With Joaquim Gomis Transatlantic, the foyer recovers a key figure for understanding the history of the Fundació Joan Miró. Before becoming its first president and a tireless defender of modern culture, Gomis travelled repeatedly to the United States in the 1920s, at a time of vertiginous transformation in the country.
Armed with only a camera and an extraordinary visual intuition, he captured oil fields, the cotton industry, emerging skyscrapers and even details of the ocean liner deck that had taken him across the Atlantic. These now iconic images unabashedly anticipate the New Vision and reveal a young, self-taught, radically modern Gomis.
