Play

This contemporary dance piece revisits the performances of the ballets Parade and Mercure, the sets and costumes for which were painted Picasso. The avant-garde nature, style and innovation of Miró and Picasso's collaborations with the Ballets Russes marked a starting point in the world of modern art.

The artistic and conceptual imaginary - such as Catalonia, the land and roots - of the artists and their work represent for Aleix Martínez and his company ManNera the starting point for exploring the physical, dramaturgical and conceptual capacities that can arise during the creation of a new visual poem.

This performing arts piece aims to shape - as if by braiding - a work centred on visual and poetic symbolism, not only in relation to the world and to Miró and Picasso's creative cosmoses, but in dialogue with the present and with the historical and social environment today.

Aleix Martínez (Barcelona, 17 May 1992)
Martínez is a Catalan dancer and currently a principal dancer with the Hamburg Ballett. In 2008, he was awarded the Prix de Lausanne and the Positano Léonide Massine Prize.
