Marwa Arsanios (Washington DC, 1978) presents Who is Afraid of Ideology?, Part 5: Right of Passage, a co-production with Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Turin) and Artium Museoa (Vitoria-Gasteiz). This film is the fifth episode in the ongoing series Who is Afraid of Ideology? (2017-), a long-term project in which the artist explores issues related to property, law, economics and ecology. From land rights to forms of community self-organisation and self-defence, Arsanios examines strategies used by different communities to confront colonial-capitalist structures-whether familial, state or corporate-in territories in Kurdistan, Iraq, north-western Syria, Lebanon and Tolima, Colombia.

For Arsanios, cinema is apprehended as a device for intertwining struggles and tracing resonances between situated contexts, driven by the urgency of imagining forms of living together. She has recently had solo exhibitions at the Heidelberger Kunstverein (Germany), Mosaïc Rooms (London), the Contemporary Arts Centre (Cincinnati), the Škuc Gallery (Ljubljana) and the Beirut Art Centre. Her work has also been presented at Documenta 15 (Kassel, 2022), the 5th Mardin Biennial (2022), the 3rd Autostrada Biennial (Pristina, 2021) and the 11th Berlin Biennial (2020), among others.

The exhibition will be part of the Loop City Screen programme.
