Arata Isozaki: Architecture
The Fundació Joan Miró presents the exhibition Arata Isozaki: Architecture as part of a lengthy journey that has taken it to various cities in Japan, the USA and Europe.
Born in 1931 in Oita (Japan), Arata Isozaki is considered to be one of the most prestigious architects in the world. His works include museums, music halls, libraries and other public buildings, although in Spain he is best known for the Palau Sant Jordi, built between 1983 and 1990, and more recently for the Domus (Casa del Hombre) centre in La Coruña.
The retrospective exhibition that the Fundació will inaugurate on 21 September brings together more than two hundred pieces, including models, drawings and various documents from twenty-two different projects. It has been divided into five different sections: site, language, technology, institution and history, which Isozaki claims are five basic aspects in the conception of a project. Each section encompasses his most relevant projects from the perspective of this classification. For example, the site section includes the new Tokyo City Hall; the language section includes the Kyoto Auditorium and the Museum of Modern Art in Gunma; the technology section includes the Bank of Fukuoka headquarters and the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona; the institution section includes the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles; and the history section includes Team Disney in Oakland, California.
