Weaving Family Stories

Over the last three years, the Fundació has been collaborating with the Escola Mossèn Jacint Verdaguer, in the Poble-sec neighbourhood, implementing innovative educational practices that encourage cross-cutting work and stress the importance of the artistic process for all areas of learning. These projects have always been conceived and jointly approved by the school’s teaching staff and the Fundació’s education department in an effort to engage families directly and to reinforce a sense of belonging to a specific place.

"Weaving Family Stories" arose from the need to work with students to emphasize the importance of family members. Family is viewed as a space for love, caring, cooperating, and sharing, where making art is a tool for conveying a series of curriculum contents that revolve around one of Miró’s most iconic pieces: his Tapestry, on display at the Fundació Joan Miró.

Yarns and wool provide the narrative threads for addressing one of the artist’s most intimate realms: his relationship with his immediate family.
